Anne Marie and Jas - Wedding Interview

We recently worked with Anne Marie and Jas on their wedding invitations. Here is what we came up with and an interview we did with them regarding their wedding planning:

Tell us a little bit about you and your fiancée...

We are both Seattle area professionals who met on line.  He fell in love, and then grew in love, and she grew in love, and then fell in love.  We are each made for the other.  Like a bow and arrow…….we are each individual, but move forth in a different way because of each other.  We are in our late 30’s and early 40’s and neither of us has been married or has had children.  We have enjoyed great and fulfilling independent lives but always knew a little something was missing.  We both dated people that seemed to fill our needs at the time, but not for time.

Where are you getting married?

When we were picking a place to be married, we wanted a blend of 4 star spa-like services, a Pacific NW casual vibe, and a beautiful view of nature at its finest.  We found a place that brought those elements all together.

Tell us a little about the wedding...

It is a Saturday evening wedding at Sunset.  It will be an elegant party with 150 of our close family and friends, from all over the United States.  We have blended a feeling of nature’s colors, with the elegance of wine theme, and a casual intimacy that promotes warmth and love.  (Laughs and tears.)

The ceremony will be short but powerful.  The party after, a huge bash.

We have a true blend of traditional and modern, just they way we want it.  No one else’s visions of this day are important other than ours.  We included our families but set the boundaries up front on what we were doing.

What are some of the elements that you are most excited about?

Our colors.  They are peaceful.

What is one thing that you can’t live without for your wedding and/or wedding planning?

For the wedding…..the vision of what I wanted that day to be.  Then all of the planning ideas needed to always come back to….”does this support the vision?”

For the wedding planning…….I moved from a look book I made, to a detailed filing system.  That plus a large excel planning sheet made life easier.  Then once that was done, my outlook task list kept everything on schedule.  I made sure to build in lots of time in between so that I did not miss out on fun.

What made you choose your invitation design?

We are both very visual people.  And an invitation is the introduction of your wedding to your guests.  We needed a look that said “4 star zen spa meets an elegant affair.”  Traditional and new…..just like we are.  Once we knew the vibe, it was easy to meet that look.  Haley and Ruth helped meet that with paper combinations, and we went through all kinds of possibilities on type/font, until we found the perfect one.  Once we did, we knew it was what we wanted.  My advice is…..keep working at it….until you find what you want.

Are there other wedding vendors that you would recommend?

Martha E Harris for flowers.

Austin Beaver for a DJ www.niteliteent.com

Powers Studios in Portland for photography (they travel with no fees.) www.powersstudios.com

Paper Fling for invitations and printing. www.paperfling.com

Anything else you would like to share about your wedding or wedding planning?

1.  I planned in advance, to allow me time as it gets closer for more fun.

2.  I treated the organization as if I were planning a large business event.  I needed it to meet the goals and objectives, without it taking over my life.

3.  I reminded myself that there is no part of me that is a Bridezilla show waiting to happen, and that no problem that came up would alter my personality.  That I would tackle what comes at me with that in mind.
